Church of St.Francis
The Church of St. Francis, not far from your hotel in Sorrento, is a tourist attraction as well as an important centre of Christian worship in the city. Originally built as an oratory in the Fourteenth Century by Franciscan friars, the façade was then restored in 1926.
During the restoration two frescoes from the Eighteenth Century depicting St.Anthony of Padua and St. James were discovered. The Church also houses a wooden statue of St. Francis with the crucified Christ and a statue of the Saint, by sculptor Alfiero Nena, is found in front of the main entrance.
